To create a form in Word that other people can fill out, start with a template and add content controls to it. These elements include, for example, checkboxes, text fields, date pickers, and drop-down lists. If you're familiar with databases, you can even bind content controls to data.

Creating fillable forms begins with six basic steps. Let's look at these steps in order.

Step 1: Display the Developer tab.

To save time, you can use a template as a basis for the form. If you want to start from scratch, take a blank template.

Creating a form from a template

    Click tab File.

    Click Create.

    In the field Search for templates on the web Type the type of form you want to create and press Enter.

    Select New document.

Step 3: Add Content to the Form

On the tab Developer click the button Design mode and insert the controls you need.

Note: A form with content controls can be printed, but the fields around them will not print.

Insert a text control where users can enter text

In a rich text content control, users can make text bold or italic, or enter multiple paragraphs of text. To limit the user experience, insert a plain text content control.

Insert a picture control.

The picture control is often used in templates, but it can also be added to a form.

    Click where you want to insert the control.

    On the tab Developer click Picture content control.

Inserting a building block control

Use building blocks when you want to give users the ability to select a specific block of text. For example, these controls are useful when creating a contract template in which, depending on specific requirements, you need to add different options standard text. You can create a rich text content control for each option and place them all in a building block control that will serve as a container.

Insert a combo box or drop-down list

In the combo box, users can select one of the items you suggest or enter their own. In the drop-down list, users can only select one of the available items.

Inserting a Date Picker Control

    Click where you want to insert a date picker control.

    On the tab Developer click Date picker content control.

    Click where you want to insert a checkbox control.

Step 4: Set or change content control settings

Each content control has options that you can set or change. For example, for a date picker control, you can choose different date display formats.

    Click the content control that you want to change.

    On the tab Developer click Properties and change the properties as needed.

Step 5. Add explanatory text to the form

Explanatory text can make the form you create and distribute easier to use. You can change the explanatory text that appears by default in a content control.

    On the tab Developer click the button Design mode.

    Click the content control for which you want to change the descriptive alt text.

    Edit and format the alt text.

    On the tab Developer click the button Design mode to turn off the design feature and keep the explanatory text.

Note: Don't check the box Content cannot be edited, if you want form users to replace explanatory text with their own.

Step 6. Protect the form

If you want to limit how users can edit or format a form, use the command Restrict Editing.

    Open the form you want to block or protect.

    Click Home > Select > Select all or press CTRL+A.

    Click Developer > Restrict Editing.

    After selecting restrictions, click the button Yes to enable protection.

Advice: If you wish, you may review the form before distributing it. Open and fill out the form, then save a copy in the desired location.

If you're familiar with the desktop Word app, you probably know that you can create fillable forms in it. This feature is not available in Word Online.

To open a document in classic Word, select Edit document > Edit in Word or Open in Word.

When you save the document and open it in Word Online, you'll see your changes.

As a rule, Word users typed this part of the document in this way: first, the name of one company was printed on the left side of the document, then many space characters or tabs were entered, and the name of the second company was printed on the right side, after which the ENTER key was pressed to move to a new line and Entering company details was repeated in the same sequence.

To make it more convenient for me to subsequently edit details in such documents, I used a table with two cells (columns). And then I easily and simply entered the details of organizations into the cells - the data did not interfere with each other and editing happened much faster.
To get rid of table borders, I made them invisible. And when printing the document, the borders were not displayed. Making borders invisible is very simple: select the entire table and right-click. In the context menu that appears, select the command Borders and Shading and in the Borders tab dialog box, click on the border type No. Now the borders will become invisible.

Therefore, if you are preparing some documents and then transferring them to another party for editing, use tables to enter details. Believe me, you will be grateful, even if you never know about it.

By the way, you can also use tables at the beginning of documents where the date and city are entered (the place where the contract was concluded, for example).

Sheet numbering

Documents drawn up on two or more sheets are numbered. Sheet numbers are written in Arabic numerals without the word “page” and separators. The location of the sheet number is the footer on the right (Fig. 2).

The exception is when it is necessary to display other information in the footer field, for example, the signatures of counterparties. In this case, the number is located at the top right.

Section numbering

When numbering sections (Fig. 3), subsections, paragraphs and subparagraphs, only Arabic numerals are used. A dot is placed after the number of the section, subsection, or item. Sections are numbered only using the multi-level list function, so that in the future you do not have to number items manually when adding or deleting an item.

Numbers

Multi-digit numbers, except 4-digit ones, are divided into classes of three digits from right to left and separated from one another by a space of one character. Ordinal numbers, except Roman numbers, indicate case endings, which are written with a hyphen. In complex adjectives, the first part of which is a numeral, case endings are not indicated.

1. Create a table consisting of one row and three columns.

2. Make the outer columns wide, and the central one narrow and located in the center.

4. Adjust the width of these cells to the text so that everything fits nicely.

5. Remove the borders of the cells (make them transparent) so that they are not printed.

6. We rejoice in the result of the labors of the righteous.

Third the method is more labor-intensive, in my opinion, but also has the right to life. You can spread text from the left and right sides of the sheet by dividing a fragment of the sheet into two columns. This is done as follows:

1. It is most convenient to pre-type the text with the details, placing them one below the other, separated by an empty line. In this case, it will be optimal if the data on each side takes the same number of lines and only until the middle of the sheet (so that in the future there will be room for the neighbor).

2. Separate the entered data above and below from the rest of the text with empty lines.

3. Select the text of the details into a block, without including the adjacent empty lines at the top and bottom.

4. On the tab Marking menu bar pages, in the area Page Options, select the button Columns – Two.

5. As a result, the selected text will be placed in two columns within the unselected empty lines. If everything was typed correctly, then each column will have the same number of lines.

6. If the data has shifted, we align it by introducing additional lines in the columns. In this case, it is necessary to take into account that the lines behave between two columns, like water in communicating vessels (school physics course). They flow from left to right, tending to equal numbers on both sides.
